LAN - Local Area Network
Definition: A local area network (LAN) supplies networking capability to a group of computers in close proximity to each other such as in an office building, a school, or a home. A LAN is useful for sharing resources like files, printers, games or other applications. A LAN in turn often connects to other LANs, and to the Internet or other WAN.
Most local area networks are built with relatively inexpensive hardware such as Ethernet cables, network adapters, and hubs. Wireless LAN and other more advanced LAN hardware options also exist.
Specialized operating system software may be used to configure a local area network. For example, most flavors of Microsoft Windows provide a software package called Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) that supports controlled access to LAN resources.
The term LAN party refers to a multiplayer gaming event where participants bring their own computers and build a temporary LAN.

It is so enjoyable to setup for LAN I think it;s so simple, everyone can do it, just we must understand the basic and English for sure. So for PC users that was familiar with Windows can make it and can understand it in just short time
But for WAN , i have no comment, because i still not doing it Anybody here ever setup for WAN?? Please share your experience

Actually, i have 4 in 1 modem. Its mean, i have modem, splitter, wireless (WAN), LAN and others. So, if you buy this modem. Its easy to setup WAN. Only need 1 day and just follow the rule at your modem instruction. But if you buy all modem and others seperately. You must setup it carefully because need more works to make you can online.
I have to wait for 2 weeks to make my WAN and LAN stable before i can access internet.. Really takes me angry and go to TMpoint to ask about this one. Hoho..

Sometime I really want to blame this TMPoint. What to do as Malaysia has the only company distribute this service. Even you make a complain, they will still response to you slow the problem persist in future. Is time to have another company to compete with them. Competition make perfect.

Hoho..No need to angry about that. Its useful. If you not satisfy, you can use Jaring. But its expensive. I'm just fine when using Streamyx. Its only RM66 permonth and i think its really checp for 1Mbs. Hope the new company will come to challenge streamyx and jaring soon.

I learn LAN in 2003 when I have my left hand broken in an accident. I start reading from internet about setting LAN for home/small office use. When I have my bandage removed 3 months later, I bought the crimping tools, RJ45 connectors, 8 port switch hub and 10 meters network cable. I plan to set up the networking between my pc and my brother's pc, so that we both can use the internet at the same time.
I always thinking to myself why the cable need to be fitted in such way when we fixed it to the RJ45, I mean we have to use the method:
1. White Orange
2. Orange
3. White Green
4. Blue
5. White Blue
6. Green
7. White Brown
8. Brown
Till now I still don't know the answer
I'm more confuse when we cannot use this cable arrangement for direct connection pc to pc. We need to crosseover the Orange cable and the Green if I'm not mistaken. I haven't practice it quite sometimes now.
About WAN, I'm not really sure about it. For laptop, infra red function will do everything. But for desktop computer, we must buy one transmitter to be fixed at the server pc (new modem normally have this built in) and receiver adapter at every client pc. For connection between computers in different area (between branches and HQ) previously I use internet connection and PC Anywhere software. PC Anywhere is an amazing and beyond current technology program I think. In case of wide and scattered in outskirt area, satellite technology for WAN is very useful, but the rent is very expensive.

If all my LAN and WAN colour turning into yellow+green. Its mean my connection is well. If the colour blink with high speed. Its mean my connection is good and i have no problem with that. But if red. Its mean something bad happen..
