I've tried vista but it is no different.I am not using it any more.It made my pc to slow down.Actually the problem is that it requires a very big graphics card so only those who play games(high end games) which require a minimum of 512 mb ddr2 ram and minimum 128mb card can use vista very efficiently and smoothly.
Moreover you should have a licensed version of windows xp not the pirated version or else it will not run.
Having said all this you can atleast give it a try.
my computer is not ready for vista. its too dangerous for my pc.. Its because vista is too strong! i need at least 1 giga of RAM to make my pc can suits with vista. Sorry. I'm out from vista this year. Maybe next year..

maybe try windows vinsta home basic, and don`t need so big ram! 512 is ok, and only one thing in vista need to very good video cart, because browsing in folders - 3d...
